Pause and ask yourself to think about a person who Pause and ask yourself to think about a person who is struggling with their relationship with food and their body. ⁣
⁣
What image or images came to mind?⁣
⁣
It may be someone you know or knew, it might be yourself, it could also be someone that your mind has created (or a combination). ⁣
⁣
While we are starting to talk about these concerns more in general which makes more space for people to share about what might be going on for them, we have a long way to go to unlearn the messaging that is reinforced over and over that these concerns are just part of a young cis gendered female experience. It’s not that people who identify this way don’t experience these struggles. ⁣
⁣
But they are not the only ones. ⁣
⁣
See what messaging you are being given this week around food and body concerns-movies, books, shows, conversations. ads etc. What shows up? What does it mean for everyone if there is only one type of person typically shown or described as struggling? #ipreview via @preview.app
You may have a lot of thoughts and feelings about You may have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this. That’s ok and it’s also normal. ⁣
⁣
Maybe something like: “oh that’s nice Lisa but that’s impossible” ⁣
or ⁣
“maybe other people can find that, but not me, you don’t understand”. ⁣
⁣
I believe you when you say that you feel whatever it is you are feeling. I also believe the part of you that perhaps does want something to shift and be different. ⁣
⁣
So what now? ⁣
What next? ⁣
⁣
▪️ Maybe it’s curiousity and asking questions. ⁣
▪️ Maybe it’s asking yourself what else you have tried in how you have been with food, how it has or has not served you and how it has left you feeling afterwards. ⁣
▪️ What is the part of you that led you to keep reading just now? ⁣
▪️ Maybe it’s reaching out to start a conversation. #ipreview via @preview.app
There are many things that factor into how you fee There are many things that factor into how you feel in and about your body right now (complexity which a Tik Tok video of course can’t begin to capture). ⁣
⁣
You didn’t arrive on this planet feeling badly about your body. ⁣
⁣
Today you might be feeling anywhere from pretty angry/disgusted/frustrated with it to positive or thankful towards it or maybe even haven’t actually thought about it or had feelings about it that you’ve noticed yet today. ⁣
⁣
In your life to this point things like cultural influences and systems, family dynamics, relationships with peers and partners etc have factored into what you have come to believe about your body. ⁣
⁣
Many things right now are reinforcing beliefs (either helpful or unhelpful to you having a peaceful relationship with your body). ⁣
⁣
✔️ You’ve had your body for how many years? ⁣
⁣
Your story is unique and takes time to understand, but understanding it helps your learn about what uniquely influences you in ways you find helpful or unhelpful so you may begin to shift how you relate to it. ⁣
⁣
Compassion and kindness are key to this.
Physical or emotional. Contrary to how things are Physical or emotional. Contrary to how things are sold and what we are told we should strive after- we don’t need to be hard, firm, rock solid or rigid. ⁣
⁣
The pursuit of hardness takes us away from ourselves in many ways. ⁣
⁣
The allowing, accepting and embracing of softness brings us back and lets us be exactly as we are. Soft doesn’t mean we aren’t strong. It is not an either or. It is a both, and. ⁣
⁣
Soft and Strong.
